Rohit Sharma's Test captaincy future was in jeopardy after a series of embarrassing defeats Vs New Zealand and Australia, however, a memorable win in the Champions Trophy has made selectors' decision easy as Rohit is likely to lead the Test team in the series against England, starting in June.

As per Express Sports, Rohit has now got the backing of the BCCI and its selectors and they want him to lead the Indian team on the Test tour of England, which comprises five matches.

After struggling for form during the home Test summer Vs New Zealand and on the away tour of Australia, many wanted Rohit to step down from the captaincy post, but it seems that the BCCI is keen on having the experienced player lead the team for the tough England series.

“He has shown what he can do. Every stakeholder feels that he is the right candidate to lead the Indian side for the tour of England. Rohit too has expressed his eagerness to keep playing red-ball cricket,” said a source to Express Sports.

India were the firm favourites to reach the World Test Championship (WTC) final, however, disaster struck in the home series against a depleted New Zealand side as they thrashed India in the 3-match series and inflicted a whitewash as Rohit came under scrutiny.

On the away Australian tour, Rohit was not there for the first Test match which India won under Jasprit Bumrah's leadership, however, he led India in the next three matches and the team lost two out of three.

As a result of his poor showing, the captain decided to drop himself for the Sydney Test, which India lost and crashed out of the WTC finale race.
