In a significant development, star Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma has withdrawn from The Hundred Women's competition. The spin-bowling all-rounder's exclusion ensures there will be no Indian player in this year's Women's Hundred tournament.
Deepti Cites Workload Management As Reason Behind Hundred Pull Out
Deepti Sharma was an integral member of London Spirit Women's squad, leading the franchise to the title with a stunning six last year. Apart from scoring valuable runs, Sharma can bamboozle the batters with her guile, making her a valuable asset in the shortest format.
However, the veteran cricketer won't participate in the Women's Hundred 2025 due to workload management. Deepti, who has had a hectic cricketing schedule of late, has decided to skip her £36,000 contract and keep herself fresh for the upcoming World Cup on home soil.
Her withdrawal means there'll be no Indian players to watch out for in the tournament this season.
The BCCI doesn't give NOCs to the men's cricketers to feature in The Hundred, while the Women's Cricketers either didn't register for the draft or skipper the competition to manage their workload. Australian all-rounder Charli Knott has replaced Deepti in the London Spirit Women's squad.
London Spirit Women Undergo Major Changes Before Women's Hundred
Meanwhile, London Spirit will miss their regular skipper Heather Knight, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. In her absence, talented English spinner Charlie Dean will lead the Spirit in this year's Women's Hundred competition.
The legendary Meg Lanning has been replaced by Grace Harris, with Ashley Noffke taking over the coaching duties from Chris Liddle. In another development, Ashleigh Gardner has been appointed as Trent Rockets' captain after Nat Sciver-Brunt's resignation from her role.
