In a significant development, Nitish Reddy has been released from India's Test squad for the first match against South Africa, starting on November 14. The ace all-rounder will join the India-A squad for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa-A, the BCCI confirmed through an official statement on Wednesday.

Nitis Reddy to join India-A; poised to return for 2nd Test

The BCCI also clarified that Nitish Reddy will link up with the Indian Test squad following the unofficial ODI series ahead of the decider against South Africa. Reddy's exclusion has paved the way for Dhruv Jurel's inclusion in India's playing XI for the Kolkata Test, a move assistant coach Abhishek Nayar hinted at during the pre-match presser.

India's updated squad for first Test: Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (WK) (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Akash Deep

India A’s updated squad for one-day series: Tilak Varma (C), Ruturaj Gaikwad (VC), Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Ishan Kishan (WK), Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Vipraj Nigam, Manav Suthar, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Khaleel Ahmed, Prabhsimran Singh (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy

Nitish Reddy, who had a memorable debut series Down Under, lost his mojo in the England series, managing only 45 runs across four innings. He played one of the two Tests against West Indies at home, scoring 43 runs, before disappointing the Indian team in the Australia ODIs.

The young cricketer, whom India see as Hardik Pandya's potential successor, hasn't had a great year, struggling with form and fitness issues. So, the unofficial ODI series against South Africa-A gives him a valuable opportunity to regain form and stake his claim in the Indian side across formats.
