Last night, the New Zealand team's journey to victory was marked by sparkles and confetti as they lifted the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 trophy after a hard-fought battle against South Africa, winning by 32 runs. The moment was a culmination of their dedication, hard work, and team spirit as the White Ferns beat South Africa to claim the coveted trophy.

This success is primarily credited to Sophie Devine and their fiery bowling all-rounder, Amelia Kerr. Kerr's brilliant performance throughout the tournament helped her enter the history books by achieving a unique once in a lifetime achievement.

Amelia Kerr Surpasses Anya Shrubsole

The 24-year-old leg-spinner Amelia Kerr single-handedly took her wickets to 15 in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024. Her three scalps in the do-or-die final clash helped New Zealand secure the trophy and made history. Kerr's performance surpassed former England bowler Anya Shrubsole's record of 13 wickets in the 2014 edition, making her the most in a single edition of the tournament.

She also won the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament awards. With this achievement, she became the first Player to win the Player of the Final and the Player of the Series in a Women's T20 World Cup edition. Meanwhile, in the Men's T20 World Cup, England's Sam Curran holds the same record. He won these two awards back in 2022, when Jos Buttler-led side won the tournament.

Amelia Kerr and Rosemary Mair Help NZ Bag Maiden Title

Earlier in the game, South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl first, The White Ferns put up a competitive total of 158/5 in their 20 overs, during which Amelia Kerr scored 43 runs. Brooke Halliday added 38, and Suzie Bates added 32. South Africa started well in their chase, reaching 47 runs without losing a wicket after six overs. Still, New Zealand's bowlers bunched themselves back after the powerplay and took some crucial wickets to put pressure back.

The South African innings collapsed as they went down by 32 runs at the hands of spinners. New Zealand witnessed excellent bowling as Rosemary Mair and Amelia Kerr took three wickets each, resulting in their victory in the tournament- the first time for New Zealand.
