New Zealand Women, on Thursday (September 22) edged out West Indies Women by two wickets in the low-scoring affair to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match ODI series.

After putting to bowl first, the visitors restricted the West Indies Women to a below-par total of 169 runs for the loss of nine wickets. In reply, New Zealand chased down the target in 40.1 overs, only after losing as many as eight wickets.

Maddy Green and Lauren Down were the chief architects of the run-chase, having scored 48 and 33 runs respectively. Amelia Kerr (21) and Brooke Halliday (24) also played breezy cameos in the middle as New Zealand Women sealed the ODI series.

For West Indies Women, Karishma Ramharack bagged a three-wicket haul while Shakera Selman got two to his name. Afy Fletcher, Stafanie Taylor, and Chinelle Henry also grabbed a wicket each.

Earlier Hayley Kristen Matthew's decision of batting first backfired big time with her team managing to add a paltry total of 169 for the loss of nine wickets at the end of the first inning.

Once the top-order collapsed on a wicket that was assisting the fast bowlers completely, the fragile middle-order of West Indies Women took no time to perish.

Amid the ruins, skipper Kristen Matthew stood tall and added 46 runs from 82 balls to ensure the hosts breach the 100-run mark. Apart from the captain, Chinelle Henry (30), Afy Fletcher (19), and Shakera Selman (18) also chipped in with handy contributions lower down the order.

All the New Zealand bowlers wreaked absolute havoc but it was young right-arm spinner Eden Carson who made the maximum noise with her length deliveries to return with envious figures of 3 for 31 in her eight overs spell.

Hayley Jensen also picked up a couple of braces while the likes of Lea Tahuhu, Fran Jonas, Sophie Devine, and Amelia Kerr finished with a wicket apiece.

Brief Score:

West Indies Women: 169/9 (50 Overs)

Hayley Kristen Matthews 46 (82), Chinelle Henry 30 (35); Eden Carson 3/31 (8), Hayley Jensen 2/27 (7)

New Zealand Women: 171/8 (40.1 Overs)

Maddy Green 48 (78), Lauren Down 33 (35); Karishma Ramharack 3/22 (6), Shakera Selman 2/30 (5)

New Zealand Women won by 2 wickets.
