  • Ned Vs Eng Eoin Morgan Ruled Out Of Final Odi Jos Buttler To Lead England

NED vs ENG | Eoin Morgan ruled out of final ODI; Jos Buttler to lead England

Under-fire England white-ball captain Eoin Morgan has been ruled out of the third and final One-Day International (ODI) against the Netherlands.

The visitors have already won the 3-ODI series after two comprehensive wins in the first two games.

Jos Buttler has been named captain for the final match of the tour, which takes place today at Amstelveen. Morgan is out due to a recurring groin strain injury that the Ireland-born picked up during his stint with Middlesex in May.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) believes this is a precautionary measure. Morgan has scored back-to-back ducks in the ongoing series, which follows a series of low scores across his last 26 innings.

The 2019 World Cup-winning captain has struggled with back and knee injuries for the past few years.

England have a long cricketing season ahead, with 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is series scheduled against India and South Africa at home, respectively.

The left-hander has recently spoken about quitting the role as England skipper if he thinks he cannot contribute to the side. The former KKR captain also clarified that he will look to rest himself in between series/games, given the workload.

Despite the criticism surrounding Morgan, all-rounder Liam Livingstone has come out in support of his captain, saying, "I think the thing that has been forgotten is Morgs (Morgan) is an unbelievable leader. He is the leader of our team and everybody knows he is only one score away. I am sure that score will come very soon and he will be off and running again."

Opener Jason Roy has backed Morgan during his slump as well.

"That's just the fickle nature of the sport. If you are behind the eight ball it is quite tough but he is an incredible worker, an incredible guy so I am backing him for sure.

He is the captain of our side and winning games so I think that means more to him than his scores which makes him more special to play under. He will be alright. He will be absolutely fine," Roy said.
