NED v PNG| Netherlands clinch a comfortable win in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifier B opener

The men in orange had an enjoyable evening in Queens Sports Club, Zimbabwe, as they cruised to their first win in ICC Men's T20 World Cup qualifier by beating Papua New Guinea by 52 runs.

The Netherlands showcased a complete performance, dominating with both bat and ball. Openers Max O'Dowd (32 of 27) and Stephan Myburgh (39 of 24) managed to give them an electric start as they established a partnership of 78 from 7.3 overs. This performance from Myburgh earned him the player of the match title.

But it wasn't all mellow for them as wickets fell quickly. Apart from the openers, only two players managed to get to two figures. However, all-rounder Bastian de Leede played a vital inning in the context of the match. His 33 of 22 balls helped the Netherlands reach 163 from the full quota of 20 overs.

For PNG, Charles Amini and Sema Kamea took two wickets each. Amini and Kamea kept things tight in the middle overs and prevented the Netherlands from getting to a mammoth total.

Papua New Guinea never were in control of the chase as they struggled throughout their innings. They lost both the openers cheaply and couldn't keep up with the required run rate. Amini (21 of 26) tried to hold things together and build a partnership with Sese Bau (35 of 34) but couldn't up the ante.

The only positive PNG can take away from this match is Amini's performance, who showcased his all-round capability.

Logan van Beek had the best figures among the Netherland bowlers with 3 for 17 from 3.4 overs. Bastain, who had a great day with the bat, took two wickets and gave away 16 runs. They bowled out the opposition for 111 with two balls to spare.

The Netherlands will want to keep the winning spirit going and perform similarly against Hong Kong tomorrow. On the other hand, PNG have many things to improve before facing Uganda, who have already tasted victory in this tournament.
