In a sudden move, Najam Sethi has decided to step down as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) head immediately, after pulling himself out of the race to become the next president. Sethi, who was head of PCB's interim management committee tenure was nearing completion on June 21, after being in power since December 2022.

Taking to Twitter, Sethi announced his decision to not contest for the vacant chairman seat after reports suggested that former chief Zaka Ashraf could be staging a comeback. As per the PCB constitution, the patron-in-chief of the board is the Nation's Prime Minister, who appoints his representative governor on the board of directors, who in all likelihood becomes the president.

Here's what Sethi Tweeted

"Salaam everyone! I don’t want to be a bone of contention between Asif Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif. Such instability and uncertainty is not good for PCB. Under the circumstances I am not a candidate for Chairmanship of PCB. Good luck to all stakeholders."

As reported by ESPNcricinfo, apart from Ashraf, Supreme Court lawyer Mustafa Ramday is also in contention as a front-runner. Both will be added to PCB's 10-men BoG, and where one of the two will be elected as chairman for the next three years.

Ashraf's last term as PCB Chairman came nine years ago during PPP's government, which came to an end after a dispute within the party, as Sethi ended up succeeding him.
