Mumbai Indians to organize UK Tour for uncapped Indian players

Mumbai Indians (MI) will organize a three-week training to their uncapped Indian players at the United Kingdom in July. They are expected to feature in at least 10 T20 games against the different county sides. 

The five-time IPL champion had a disappointing campaign in the 2022 edition, wherein they could only secure four wins in 14 league matches. 

The young uncapped Indian players like NT Tilak Varma, Kumar Kartikeya, Ramandeep Singh, Hrithik Shokeen are some of the team’s key players, who will be the part of the training camp. 

The IPL source reckoned that Arjun Tendulkar is already in the UK, while Dewald Brevis is also said to be joining the rest of the players. 

"Arjun Tendulkar, who is also in the UK and South African youngster Dewald Brevis are also likely to join the touring party," IPL source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah are busy with their international schedules, and the camp is especially organized for the domestic players to get much needed competitive games under their belt to prepare for the upcoming edition of the IPL. 

"Look, the Indian domestic season has come to an end. While the top players like skipper Rohit Sharma, premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah will be now on the road with the national team, our international stars will also be busy with their respective commitments. 

"So effectively, we can't call it a pre-season trip as the IPL is still nine months away. But it is trying to monitor the progress of our core group of youngsters going forward," he added.

Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene will oversee the operations of the training camp. 

Furthermore, the source has confirmed that the franchise will not need any permission from BCCI, as the preparatory series will not be a revenue-generator. 

"This trip isn't a commercial one where there will be tickets sold or the match will be broadcast on a particular channel or streamed on some app. Since the trip isn't a revenue generator, we don't need to apply for any permission from BCCI," he informed.

In the end, the source informed that only those players will be part of the camp, who are not associated with any domestic leagues or the camps by the BCCI. 

“We are only taking those players to UK who are not associated with any national team activities or have been summoned for any of the BCCI conducted camps or playing in any league (like TNPL)."
