Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend MS Dhoni has made history once again in the Indian Premier League (IPL). On May 8, during the IPL 2025 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens, the CSK captain achieved a remarkable milestone.
MS Dhoni’s Unique Record In IPL
MS Dhoni became the first player in IPL history to remain unbeaten in 100 innings. In the game against KKR, he remained not out after scoring 17 runs off 18 balls, adding another impressive record to his list.
After playing 241 innings in the IPL, Dhoni has stayed not out 100 times, an achievement no other player has managed to reach. The next best is CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has 80 not-out innings.
CSK’s Thrilling Victory Over KKR
Talking about the match, KKR got off to a strong start after choosing to bat first. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sunil Narine, and Ajinkya Rahane guided the team to 67/1 in the first six overs. Despite slowing down in the middle due to CSK’s spinners, Andre Russell’s late hitting helped KKR post a total of 179 runs.
CSK didn’t have the best start, losing five wickets during the PowerPlay, including debutant Urvil Patel, who scored a quick 31 off 11 balls. However, Dewald Brevis stole the show by smashing Vaibhav Arora for 30 runs in the 11th over, putting CSK back on track. Although Chakravarthy dismissed Brevis in the 13th over, the damage had already been done.
Shivam Dube played a key role, and MS Dhoni hit a six on the first ball of the final over, bringing CSK closer to victory. Anshul Kamboj then hit the winning boundary over mid-on, marking CSK’s first successful chase of a 180-plus and winning the match by 2 wickets.
KKR’s Playoff Hopes In Jeopardy
With this defeat, KKR now has 11 points from 12 matches and sits in sixth place on the points table. To keep their playoff hopes alive, they must win their remaining two games against SRH and RCB and rely on other results going their way.
