South Africa young star Dewald Brevis has made history by becoming the most expensive player in SA20. The Season 4 player auction took place in Johannesburg on Tuesday, where six teams competed for top players.
Notably, Brevis’ journey in the auction was nothing short of dramatic. His base price was set at R500,000 (around $28,500). The bidding began with the Joburg Super Kings (JSK), but they were soon challenged by Paarl Royals (PR). The battle between the two teams pushed the price up to R10 million. However, since Paarl Royals only had R14.5 million in their purse, they were forced to drop out.
At that moment, Pretoria Capitals jumped in. They went head-to-head with JSK and although JSK made a strong offer of R16 million, PC pushed it slightly higher by R500,000. JSK then backed out, leaving PC to secure Brevis for a staggering R16.5 million (₹8.31 crore). Notably, this made Brevis the most expensive buy in SA20 history.
It is worth mentioning that his popularity has grown rapidly, especially after his performance in the IPL 2025 season with Chennai Super Kings. In fact, his SA20 contract shows a huge leap in earnings, as his salary jumped by almost 277 percent compared to his IPL deal, an increase of about ₹6.1 crore.
How Much Does Dewald Brevis Earn?
In terms of overall wealth, Brevis is already doing well for his age. According to Zee News, his net worth in 2025 is estimated between USD 2–3 million (₹25–30 crore). His income mainly comes from cricket, including his IPL contracts, SA20 earnings, and his appearances in other overseas leagues like the CPL, MLC, and England’s T20 Blast.
At only 22, he has already played in several top leagues around the world, gaining recognition as one of the most exciting young talents in the game.
When it comes to his IPL journey, Brevis first appeared in 2022 with Mumbai Indians, who bought him for ₹3 crore. Later, he was released and picked up by Chennai Super Kings for ₹2.2 crore, where he shined as a replacement player and made a strong impact in the 2025 season.
Despite his success, there have been no confirmed reports of major brand endorsements or sponsorships so far.
Likewise, there is no clear information about him owning houses or property, as he seems more focused on building his career rather than investments at this stage.
