Mohammed Siraj was a notable absentee from India's optional training session arranged by the team management on Monday (February 12). The Indian speedster skipped the training session scheduled behind closed doors at the renamed Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium in Rajkot ahead of the third Test against England, starting Thursday (February 15).

The wicket-taking pacer, who had been rested by the selectors and the team management for the second Test in Visakhapatnam, reached Saurashtra late in the evening, hours after a few of the Indian players underwent an optional training session before the regular practice days scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to a News18 report, the Hyderabad right-arm seamer was spotted at the airport giving the excited fans selfies while he waited for his luggage near the belt.

Mohammed Siraj Skips India's Optional Training Session

"Waiting for his luggage near the belt, Siraj was spotted obliging numerous requests for selfies and photographs before he was escorted to his car by the SCA officials," the report said.

The officials confirmed the Indian team had an optional training session on Monday, which was not necessary for Siraj to attend as he spent the longish break from the completion of the first Test at the NCA working on his bowling and speeds.

The pacer appeared out of rhythm and short of optimal pace when he bowled in the first Test in Hyderabad, inspiring little confidence in skipper Rohit Sharma to hand him the ball consistently on a dry surface, which should've suited his slingy action and ability to generate late movement.

Siraj bowled just 4 overs in the first-innings and only 7 in the second-innings of the Test match. Having worked over his issues in the past two weeks, the cricketer now looks set for a return to the playing XI in Rajkot with the series levelled 1-1.
