As per emerging reports, veteran India speedster Mohammed Shami has been tested negative for COVID-19.

Notably, Shami was included in India's squad for the home series against Australia and South Africa. However, the unfortunate COVID illness ruled him out of the series and he was replaced by Umesh Yadav in the team. But now, as Shami is available, it will be interesting to see whether India bring him instantly to play the South Africa series or continue with Umesh Yadav.

In his eight-year-long T20I career, Shami has blown hot and cold, scalping 18 wickets in 17 outings at an ordinary economy of 9.55. He last played a T20I in the 2021 World Cup, where he picked six wickets, including a spectacular three-fer against Scotland.

With Avesh Khan not living up to the expectations, India were bound to reconsider Shami to fill the void of a hit-the-deck seamer in the squad. However, he has to race against time to get some game time before the showpiece event starting next month.
