In what comes as a massive news for all cricket fans, Pakistan's Director of Cricket Mohammad Hafeez, who was also leading the side in head coach's capacity, has stepped down from his role following his controversial stint with the team in Australia and New Zealand, where players were against his ideas.

The decision comes on the back of unpleasantness expressed by senior players of the side who felt his conferences and team meetings was long and tedious, causing restlessness among the many, while also adding that not providing NOCs to play in foreign leagues was another reason.

Even the Sports Ministry were against the idea of long-term contracts, which prompted the board to go ahead with short-term agreements; hence, the end of his tenure was on the cards.

Now, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Hafeez are parting ways on good terms, as mentioned in the statement released by the board on social media, where they acknowledged his contribution.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board extends heartfelt gratitude to Mohammad Hafeez, Director Pakistan men’s cricket team, for his invaluable contributions. Hafeez's passion for the game has inspired players and his mentorship during the tour of Australia and New Zealand have been of immense importance. The PCB wishes Hafeez good luck and success in his future endeavours.”

To the unversed, Hafeez was appointed as the team's head following the side's dismissal show in the World Cup 2023 in India, where they failed to qualify for the semi-finals. The aftermath was a change in coaching staff and captaincy as Babar Azam relieved himself from the duties.

Right before this news, another major jolt struck one of the prominent fast bowlers from Pakistan as the board decided to terminate pacer Haris Rauf's central contract with immediate effect after he failed to provide solid reasons for not travelling with the team to Australia for the Test series.

Meanwhile, Hafeez's tenure lasted two and a half months, where his side succumbed to a Test series whitewash Down Under and a 4-1 loss against New Zealand in the T20I series.
