Things are not looking good between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Glenn Maxwell, as the three-times runners-up did not post a solitary tweet for the Australian all-rounder, who celebrated his 36th birthday on October 14.
Maxwell had his worst IPL season for RCB in the 2024 edition, as the star all-rounder amassed just 52 runs in 10 games. Following a lacklustre season with the bat, there were rumours that RCB are looking past Glenn and might not retain him for IPL 2025.
Reports Suggest RCB Looking To Release Glenn Maxwell
Recently, a report from Anandbazaar Patrika mentioned that RCB are looking to release Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell because of their underwhelming performance given their price tag. Given Maxwell’s price tag of INR 11 crore, RCB is reportedly looking to invest in younger talent.
In the latest events, the speculations grew as RCB failed to wish Maxwell on his birthday. Interestingly, The Men in Red remembered to wish their former star batter Tillakaratne Dilshan and also tweeted for Gautam Gambhir, but nothing for Maxwell.
Fans Start A Rumour Mill After RCB's Latest Act
The fans were amused by that gesture and started the rumours mill of Maxwell shifting bases. It is worth noting that Punjab Kings, a former team of Maxwell, posted a special message for the Australia batter on his birthday.
"𝐌𝐀𝐗 entertainment is guaranteed when this guy plays! #SherSquad, join us in wishing a very #HappyBirthday to our former, Glenn Maxwell! "
For the upcoming IPL 2025 auction, which is likely to take place in the last week of November or the first week of December, franchises have been asked to retain a maximum of six players. Reportedly, the last date to submit the retention list is October 31.
