English coach Matthew Mott after previously backing the big-hitter Alex Hales has now spoken about the stiff relationship between the opener and all-rounder Ben Stokes. It is to be mentioned that Hales had missed quite some amount of cricket after failing the drug test in 2019.

However, with a change in management along with the recent appointments of coach Mott and skipper Jos Buttler, Hales is about to make a comeback in the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan. Previously, Jonny Bairstow, after getting injured, made way for Hales, who will also don the English jersey for the T20 World Cup scheduled in Australia.

Furthermore, the duo of Stokes and Hales were also involved in a late night-brawl in Bristol in 2017, where they received backdated bans and fines from the committee.

Mott speaks on the matter

Matthew Mott said that both of them having a similar vision and objective of achieving the World Cup glory is the main driving force for them to be together.

"They might not be best mates, and that's OK,"

He also mentioned that people could work with their colleagues they don't admire if they share a common aim.

"I'm sure you work with colleagues all the time who aren't your best mate, but you can work with them if you've got a common goal.

"Ben's come out and stated that as well. He wants to win World Cups. I'm sure Alex does as well, and we all do, so we try and pick the best players, and if they end up becoming good mates again, that's great; if not, as long as they're going towards that goal of winning the World Cup together then that's how teams function."

England will tour Pakistan next for a 7-match T20I series beginning on the 20th of September.
