In a significant yet concerning development, the Anti-Corruption Unit of the BCCI has reportedly handed over several suspected bookies to the local police during Rajasthan Royals' recently-held IPL 2024 clash against Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals.

Exhibiting their unwavering vigilance, the ACU evicted two suspects from the corporate box during the RR vs DC clash in Jaipur on March 28.

Further, they promptly sent two other individuals to police remand from the MCA president's box of the Wankhede Stadium, leaving no room for doubt about their commitment to maintaining the integrity of the game.

The suspects caught in Jaipur saw an FIR lodged against them, while the case from Mumbai turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.

The Marine Drive police released both of them upon finding nothing suspicious in their electronic devices.

Notably, the bookies generally capitalise on the eight to fifteen-second gap between the real-time action and the live telecast if an individual provides them with the on-field information by attending the match in person.

The ACU's quick actions might have been influenced by CCTV footage, which shows the people committing suspicious actions.

To those unversed, the Royals have a forgettable history, having served a two-year ban after three of their players- Ajit Chandila, Ankit Chavan and S Sreesanth- were accused of spot fixing.

With the ACU's swift and decisive action, there is a renewed hope that corruption will be kept at bay, allowing the true spirit of the beautiful game to shine through.
