After a thrilling T20I series between South Africa and Australia, the cricket world is eagerly waiting for the upcoming three-match ODI series between two teams. Ahead of their first match, South Africa faced a massive setback.
Due to an ankle injury, ace South African pacer Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the ODI series. Youngster Kwena Maphaka has replaced the speedster in the squad.
Rabada To Miss The ODI Series vs Australia
After facing a heartbreaking defeat in the T20I series, the South African side was eyeing a bounce-back in the three-match ODI series against Australia. Ahead of stepping into the first ODI on August 19, the side faced a big setback as Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the ODI series.
Due to an inflammation in his right ankle, he will miss the entire series. The pace ace will undergo rehabilitation in Australia under the watch of the Proteas’ medical staff. Confirming the news, Cricket South Africa has also issued an official statement.
“Proteas Men’s fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against Australia due to inflammation of his right ankle. The 30-year-old underwent a scan on Monday, which confirmed the extent of the injury. He will remain in Australia and undergo rehabilitation under the supervision of the Proteas medical staff,” the statement said.
Maphaka Steps In To Replace Rabada In The Squad
The CSA have handed young pacer Kwena Maphaka a golden opportunity as he replaces Kagiso Rabada for the ODI series. In the recently concluded T20I series, Maphaka showcased his excellence, taking the most wickets in the series. In three matches, he secured nine wickets with a brilliant four-wicket haul in the first T20I.
“Kwena Maphaka, who finished as the leading wicket-taker in the recent T20 International series, has been added to the squad,” CSA said in the statement.
On August 19, Australia will take on South Africa in the first ODI at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns. Fans are looking for some fresh white-ball action as the South African side will be eager for a stronger bounce back.
