Marnus Labuschagne Takes A Dig At Subcontinent Teams After Australia Crushed PAK At Perth

Australian batsman Marnus Labuschagne has taken a sly dig at subcontinental teams after his side pulverised Pakistan by 360 runs at Perth. The 29-year-old claimed that Australia is always at an advantage whenever they face a team from the subcontinent on a bouncy Perth surface.

Australia’s thumping win over Pakistan in their series opener not only extended their dominance at the Perth Stadium, but also took them 1-0 up in their three-match series. Having played their first Test match at the venue back in December 2018, the hosts have won each of their four fixtures hosted by the iconic stadium so far.

Australia crashed Pakistan by 360 runs in the first Test to take an early lead in their series. After the match, middle-order batter Marnus Labuschagne bragged about Australia’s unbeaten record at the Perth Stadium, and added that they are at an advantage whenever they come across an Asian team on Perth’s bouncy surface.

While speaking with the reporters, he said:

“It's a big advantage when you're playing a subcontinent team on such a bouncy surface like Perth.”

With this statement, Labuschagne might well have indirectly recommended Cricket Australia officials to host Australia’s first Test match against the visiting Indian team at Perth next year.

The right-handed batsman, meanwhile, himself failed to get going with the bat against Pakistan bowlers at the venue, considering he returned with scores of just 16 and 2 across both innings of the series opener.

Regardless, Australia will now face Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in the second Test match between December 26 and December 30. The three-match series will conclude with a potential decider next month at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

The ongoing fixtures constitute a part of the ongoing 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
