It seems the Australian side will be heading into the Champions Trophy 2025 with a depleted squad as both Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood are doubtful due to their respective injuries. Cummins is the captain of the team and is arguably their most important player, and his absence is more critical for Australia than Hazlewood.

The Australian captain suffered from an ankle injury during the Border-Gavaskar Tour Vs India and also skipped the Sri Lanka Tests due to the birth of his child and also to take some time to heal his injury.

There is no official confirmation yet, but if Cummins actually gets ruled out, there are 3 players who need to step up in his absence.

3) Mitchell Starc

With no Hazlewood and now no Cummins as well, the job becomes a whole lot difficult for the third member of the pace trio, Mitchell Starc. He is the undisputed King of the ODIs, but with his partners not by his side, he has added responsibility on his shoulders.

Starc has always delivered when it comes to 50-overs ICC tournament and the Aussie side will once again hope that he steps up and delivers the goods for the team.

2) Nathan Ellis

There is a great chance that with no Cummins and Hazlewood, Nathan Ellis will be included in the playing XI for the Champions Trophy. He recently had a terrific Big Bash League for the Hobart Hurricanes and the pacer will be oozing with confidence.

However, pressure will be on him to deliver in the tournament and Ellis has the capability to step up in big moments.

1) Marcus Stoinis

Australia have plethora of bowling options, and one of them is Marcus Stoinis. He is not only a hard-hitting middle order batter, but is also a capable bowler who can give Australia 5-7 overs easily.

On a good day, he can also churn out wickets as he has the capability of outfoxing the batters with his change off pace. In case Australia lack experience in bowling department, the role of Stoinis the all-rounder will be crucial.
