Maharaja T20 Trophy 2022: Devdutt Padikkal's whirlwind knock puts Gulbarga Mystics in the final

Gulbarga Mystics rode on Devdutt Padikkal's belligerent knock to storm into the finals of the Maharaja T20 Trophy 2022 following their six wickets win over Mysore Warriors in the Qualifier 2 on Thursday, August 25 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Chasing 158 to secure a spot in the summit clash alongside Bengaluru Blasters, Gulbarga reached their target with two balls to spare in the second qualifier.

The Rajasthan Royals opener Devdutt Padikkal was at his destructive best as he went to stack a devastating 64-ball unbeaten 96 studded with 8 fours and 5 humongous sixes to take his side home single-handedly. 

Manoj S Bhandage played second fiddle to Padikkal and remained unbeaten for a 23-ball 35. For Mysore, Pavan Deshpande took two wickets followed by Vidyadhar Patil and Monish Reddy, who bagged a brace each. 


Karun Nair propelled Mysore to a respectable total

Earlier, Karun Nair and Pavan Deshpande's flamboyant knocks followed by Naga Bharath's late blitz took Mysore Warriors to a respectable total of 157 for five in the allocated 20 overs.

Skipper Karun Nair stood firm with the blade against all the odds and cracked 42 runs from 32 deliveries with the help of four boundaries, and a towering six. 

Pavan Deshpande mustered 38 runs off 48 deliveries while Naga Bharath played an impetus knock of 12-ball 27 to finish the innings on a high. 

Opener Nihal Ullal (14) and Shivraj Singh Khenwar (16) also chipped in with valuable contributions as Mysore Warriors reached 157/5 at the end of the first inning.

Vidhwath Kaverappa and Kushal Wadhwani were the pick of the bowlers for Gulbarga Mystics, having embraced with two wickets each in their four overs quota.

Gulbarga Mystics will cross swords against the Mayank Agarwal-led Bengaluru Blasters in the final of the Maharaja T20 Trophy 2022 on Friday, August 26.
