Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das is likely to miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies starting October 18. The 31-year-old is still recovering from a side strain sustained during a practice session ahead of the Asia Cup Super 4 clash against India in Dubai last month.

The injury ruled Litton Das out of the remainder of the tournament, as well as the recently concluded T20I and ODI series against Afghanistan.

Selector informs about Litton Das' chances for the tour

According to The Daily Star, Litton underwent an MRI scan on October 14, and selectors are awaiting the report before making a final decision. However, Chief Selector Qazi Ashraf Hussain expressed doubts about his availability, noting that Litton “is not batting full-fledgedly yet.”

"If someone can't start batting fully, we can't consider him for selection, After the scan report, the medical team will decide when he can begin. It was expected by now, given the nature of the injury, but it seems delayed," Lipu said.

Litton Das' absence is a missed opportunity

Litton’s recent form has also been inconsistent. Litton played one ODI in 2025 where he was out for a duck, and in 2024, he played 5 ODI matches from where he scored only 6 runs. Though his batting showed glimpses of revival during the T20 Asia Cup 2025, his 'likely' absence in the upcoming ODI tour might further continue to hurt his ODI comeback prospects.

Not only Litton Das' own revival but his continued absence may also hurt Bangladesh’s Test and ODI plans, with selector Ashraf admitting that the decline of Bangladesh's ODI side is led by limited options. "We don't have enough available players. I have to work with what's in my basket," Ashraf said.

Nevertheless, Bangladesh is expected to reveal the squad for the West Indies tour today, as the visitors will also be arriving at Dhaka on October 15.
