List Of England's ODI Captains And Their International Cricket Tenure Timelines

England has been dealt a significant setback as regular skipper Jos Buttler has been ruled out of the ODI series against Australia due to a right calf injury. Buttler had already missed the T20I tour, and his absence from the ODI matches will be a major blow to the team.

In his place, Harry Brook has been handed the captaincy for the series and he became England's 37th ODI captain. This is a crucial moment for Brook, as the young batter takes on the leadership role in a high-profile series against one of England's biggest rivals.

Before Brook, Zak Crawley was the last to captain England in an ODI series, leading the team against Ireland last year. England's journey in the ODI format began under Ray Illingworth, who captained the team during their first-ever ODI match, also against Australia, in January 1971.

However, it was under the leadership of Eoin Morgan that England enjoyed their most successful period in the format. Morgan, who captained the team from 2014 to 2022, transformed England's approach to white-ball cricket following their disastrous exit from the 2015 ODI World Cup.

In this article, let's take a look at the list of England's ODI captains list.

Looking ahead, England is set to face Pakistan in a three-match Test series next month. The series will begin on October 7 in Multan, and the Pakistan team will be under pressure to deliver strong performances, especially after the recent poor performance against Bangladesh.
