Tom Latham is set to assume New Zealand’s ODI leadership role in their first 50-over international assignment since the conclusion of the 2023 World Cup. The New Zealand Cricket (NZC) Board, on December 6, on December 6, announced several potential debutants in their 14-player squad for their upcoming three-match home ODI series against the visiting Bangladeshi troops.

Kane Williamson among NZ seniors to miss BAN ODIs

New Zealand Cricket have announced Auckland Aces leg-spinner Adi Ashok, Central Stags all-rounder Josh Clarkson and Canterbury fast bowler Will O'Rourke as three uncapped players for New Zealand’s upcoming home series against Bangladesh. World Cup 2023 cult hero Rachin Ravindra has also been given an extended rope in ODIs, considering his blistering run with the bat in India last month.

Kane Williamson’s deputy Tom Latham is set to assume his leadership role, after sporadically leading his country at the World Cup in the former’s absence. Apart from Williamson, fellow senior members like Tim Southee, Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Santner, Glenn Phillips, Lockie Ferguson, Jimmy Neesham and Trent Boult are also not a part of the squad owing to different reasons.

The New Zealand cricket team will be hosting Bangladesh in three ODIs and three T20I matches between December 17 and December 31 later this month.

The proceedings will commence with the ODI set of fixtures, where the opening tie will be played at Dunedin’s University of Otago Oval. The two teams will subsequently travel to Nelson’s Saxton Oval for the second ODI on December 20 and to Napier’s McLean Park for the final fixture before commencing their T20 World Cup 2024 preparations with a short T20I series.
