Kolkata Police Commissioner Assures Pakistan Of Adequate Security During World Cup

As the countdown for the high-octane 2023 World Cup ticks on, the preparations at Eden Gardens are underway in full swing as it gears up to host the upcoming ODI World Cup matches. Amidst the festival season, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) had reportedly requested BCCI to reschedule the crucial World Cup fixture between Pakistan and England, initially set for November 12th.

The rescheduling request was placed as two of Kolkata’s grand festivals - Durga Puja and Kali Puja were supposed to take place during that match day. In a scenario like this, it is pretty safe to assume that the law enforcement units would severely get stretched thin as they would have to cater to the security requirements of the players as well as the people who would be involved in celebrating the festival.

However, Kolkata’s battle-hardened law enforcement team is preparing itself to ensure top-notch security and safety for all the teams involved. Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal assured the cricket fans that he and his team will think differently to provide robust security to the visiting Pakistan team.

“We have been managing successfully for years. So, this time we will organize everything in the same way. There will be no problem. We will think differently to provide proper security for the Pakistan team also, and that will be decided as the time comes nearer,” the commissioner asserted, as reported by India Today.

Furthermore, Commissioner Goyal also spoke at length about how his unit addresses every aspect of law and order before any important match. He stressed that every critical component, from match management to security, would be handled meticulously.

Eden Gardens will host 5 World Cup matches, including one semi-final match. India, England, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are amongst the four teams who will be seen in action at this venue.
