KKR, the three-time IPL champions, are currently looking for a new coach after Chandrakant Pandit’s exit in July 2025. Pandit had guided KKR to their IPL title in 2024, but the team’s performance in the 2025 season was disappointing, they won only five out of 14 matches and finished eighth in the 10-team league.
Following the poor season, Pandit stepped down, and several other key staff members, including bowling coach Bharat Arun, also left the franchise.
This has left KKR searching for an experienced hand to rebuild their coaching setup. Given Kumble’s vast experience and proven track record, fans believe he could be the perfect fit. Kumble has previously served as India’s head coach in 2016 and has coached the IPL team Punjab Kings. Notably, he has also worked as a mentor for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI), bringing a wealth of knowledge to every team he has been part of.
During his playing career, Kumble was known for his determination and leadership. He took a remarkable 956 wickets in international cricket, 619 in Tests and 337 in ODIs.
While KKR hasn’t made any official announcement yet, their birthday post for Kumble has certainly set social media buzzing.
