The 44th IPL 2025 encounter between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) was abandoned due to incessant downpour at Eden Gardens. Batting first, PBKS posted a challenging total of 201 runs before KKR's run-chase was interrupted by rain. The Knight Riders could bat for only an over, as rain had the last laugh in the fascinating clash.
Can KKR Still Qualify For Playoffs In IPL 2025?
Led by Ajinkya Rahane, KKR have won three and lost five of their first nine games. They are currently placed seventh, with seven points under their belt.
The Knight Riders have five group-stage games left and are scheduled to face Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their upcoming fixtures.
Every game is a must-win affair for KKR and they need to emerge victorious in all five games to stay alive in the competition. If they remain unbeaten in their next five matches, it will take their tally to 17 points.
Meanwhile, if KKR lose one game from hereon, it will make them depend on the other teams to enter the playoffs. Currently, PBKS, MI and LSG seem to be their biggest competitors, claiming the fourth, fifth and sixth positions with 11 and 10 points.
Interestingly, they have a positive NRR unlike LSG, who have a net run rate of -0.054. So, ideally, KKR would like to win their remaining games while wanting PBKS, MI and LSG to lose at least one-two matches for a sure-shot qualification.
KKR's Next Match In IPL 2025
Led by Rahane, KKR will take on the rampant Delhi Capitals in their next IPL 2025 match. The Axar Patel-led outfit has showcased exemplary form in the tournament, securing six wins in eight outings.
