New Zealand cricket star Kane Williamson is making a comeback to the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2025, but not as a player! In a surprising twist, Williamson will be part of IPL 2025 as a commentator.
Kane Williamson Released Before IPL 2025 Auction
Williamson, who last played for Gujarat Titans (GT) , was released by the team before the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The franchise retained only five players and decided to let go of Williamson, who was bought for ₹2 crore in the previous season.
Over the past few years, injuries have limited his IPL appearances. Since joining Gujarat Titans, the former New Zealand captain has played only three matches. However, his overall IPL record remains impressive, with 2,128 runs in 79 matches.
Kane Williamson To Play In PSL 2025
Even though he won’t be playing in IPL 2025, Williamson will still be in action. He has been picked by Karachi Kings for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025, where he will reunite with his former Sunrisers Hyderabad teammate, David Warner.
Williamson initially went unsold in the PSL 2025 auction in the platinum category, but Karachi Kings (KK) grabbed him in the supplementary round of the PSL draft.
PSL and IPL Clash for the First Time
For the first time ever, the PSL will run alongside the IPL. The 10th edition of the PSL is scheduled from April 8 to May 19, while the IPL starts on March 22. This means Williamson may have to juggle his commitments, possibly missing some PSL matches. While he won’t be on the field in IPL 2025, fans can still enjoy his insights
