Jonathan Trott appointed as Afghanistan men’s head coach

On Friday (22 July), the former England batter Jonathan Trott was appointed as the head coach of the Afghanistan men's cricket team.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) took to Twitter to announce the same development.

Trott will begin his coaching stint in the team's bilateral series against Ireland starting next month.

The 41-year-old featured in international cricket from 2007 to 2015. He amassed 6792 runs in 127 appearances across all three formats comprising 13 centuries.

In the past, Trott has served as the batting coach of the England team for their tours to India and Pakistan. Currently, he is the assistant coach for the Warwickshire team in English domestic cricket.

Trott replaced his fellow Englishman Graham Thorpe for this duty due to the latter's prolonged illness since March.
