ZIM v BAN | Nurul Hasan named Bangladesh T20I skipper, Mahmudullah rested

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced Nurul Hasan Sohan as their new T20 International captain for Bangladesh's upcoming Zimbabwe tour, commencing on July 30.

As expected, Mahmudullah Riyad is rested, along with former skipper Mushfiqur Rahim, in favour of the younger talents.

However, both players will feature in the One-Day International (ODI) series, which follows the T20Is.

MeanwhileTamim Iqbal will continue to lead the ODI side.

Test skipper Shakib Al Hasan himself requested leave from the Zimbabwe series, comprising three T20Is and as many ODIs.

BCB cricket operations committee chairman Jalal Yunus revealed that the board had communicated to the senior pros about the management trying out younger talent for this tour.

"We have decided that Nurul Hasan will lead the side in the upcoming T20Is. We felt the T20 squad should make a new start as they are not performing well and we want the new guys to express them. We already relayed our message to Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur," Yunus was quoted by Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, team director Khaled Mahmud Sujon clarified that Nurul's appointment is only for the Zimbabwe tour and not for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 or any other scheduled series.

Lately, it has been speculated that the BCB is unhappy with Mahmudullah's style of leadership, who lost their last T20I series 0-2 against the West Indies.

Parvez Hossain Emon has received his maiden T20I call-up, while pacer Hasan Mahmud returns to the 50-overs national team after being away nursing an injury.

A notable miss from the white-ball squads is fast bowler Ebadot Hossain.

The first T20I will be played at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on July 30.
