Indian cricketers will soon be allowed to compete in international T20 tournaments, a major decision that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may announce.
Many active and former players have pushed for the right for Indian players to compete in international cricket competitions.
The demand has increased significantly as a result of IPL's expanding influence abroad and the IPL franchise's acquisition of all six CSA T20 League teams. At the BCCI Annual General Meeting in September, a decision will be made on the subject.
A senior BCCI official said in an interview that,
"Few IPL teams with a presence in leagues abroad have requested the BCCI to allow Indian players. But we have to discuss this at the AGM before coming to any conclusion."
He further added,
"It is a contentious issue as IPL is successful because of the exclusivity it provides. Definitely, we won't lose that. As for Indian players playing abroad, it may happen due to the growing number of franchise leagues."
Players from the Indian women's cricket squad are permitted to compete in overseas leagues. The Women's Big Bash League has featured players like Jemimah Rodrigues, Smriti Mandhana, and Harmanpreet Kaur.
The BCCI even permits retired male cricketers to compete in foreign competitions, but all currently active Indian cricketers and those who play domestic cricket in India are prohibited from competing abroad.
