Jemimah Rodriguez lights up The Hundred with unbeaten 92 off 43 balls, Marchant de Lange picks first fifer

It was a stunning day of action in The Hundred on Saturday, July 24 with Indian Women’s team member Jemimah Rodriguez hitting a blistering 92 off 43 balls playing for Northern Superchargers Women against Welsh Firea Women at Headingley in Leeds.

Later on that evening, Trent Rockets’ South African import Marchant de Lange picked up the first five-wicket haul of the competition. He achieved this feat against Southern Brave at the Rockets’ home in Trent Bridge.

Reacting to her brilliant innings which were compiled of 17 fours and six, Rodrigues said, "I had to stay calm and play my game because I am good enough, that's why I'm playing in the team.” Not being able to play in any of the three T20Is that Indian Women played against England Women recently, the 21-year-old Bombay born made sure that she sets a statement ahead of the Australia tour.

“A slight shift that I got my mindset on, that I don't need to put too much pressure on myself to go out and score or prove myself or make it big. I just stuck to my game, kept things simple and played the best cricket I possibly knew,” added Rodrigues.

De Lange was brought into the squad after Pakistan’s Wahab Riaz, the original overseas player for the Rockets was not able to make it to the United Kingdom due to work permit related issues. The Somerset player was thrilled with his historic achievement.

“Really delighted, I must say it was unexpected but I am really happy,” said the man who was touching the 90 Miles Per Hour barrier with each delivery he delivered on the pitch.

“I just felt the surface was good, a little bit of bounce, that was good for me as a fast bowler. It was a bit strange (new tournament), but I just needed to adapt and stick to the basics. Hopefully, we can carry this form through,” added the 30-year-old who finished with figures of 5/20 from his 20 balls.

Aaron Finch ruled out of Bangladesh series due to knee injury

Australia’s limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch will miss the five-match T20I series against Bangladesh due to a knee injury. Finch had injured himself ahead of the ODI series and the right-handed batsman had missed the first encounters of the three-match series. Finch expressed his disappointment at missing out on the tours and further added that he would have to undergo a surgery. "I'm extremely disappointed to be heading home," Finch said on Sunday (July 25). "This was considered the best course of action rather than travelling to Bangladesh, not being able to play and losing that recovery time. I will have the surgery if required and start the recovery process ahead of the World Cup." Alex Carey has been leading the side against West Indies in the ODIs in Finch’s absence while a new skipper would be named for the T20Is. Matthew Wade is the vice captain for the T20Is and had also led the side in one game against India last year. The Aussie team will take the flight to Bangladesh on Wednesday after the conclusion of the deciding ODI. The third and final ODI between the Australian side and the Caribbean team will be played on Tuesday while the T20I series between Australia and Bangladesh is slated to begin on August 3 in Dhaka.

South Africa completed a clean sweep win against Ireland in the three-match T20I series after winning the final clash by 49 runs in Belfast. WI vs AUS | 2nd ODI: Nicholas Pooran, bowlers help West Indies level series

West Indies levelled the three-match ODI series against Australia in Barbados after winning the second clash by 4 wickets. Chasing a target of 188, the hosts had a disappointing start to the proceedings as they lost a couple of early wickets after Even Lewis and Darren Bravo were sent back in the hut by Mitchell Starc early. But wicket-keeper batsman Shai Hope and Jason Mohammad tried to resist and chipped in with a partnership of 36 runs before Mohammad was cleaned up for 11 by Adam Zampa.
