Aaron Finch ruled out of Bangladesh series due to knee injury

Australia’s limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch will miss the five-match T20I series against Bangladesh due to a knee injury. Finch had injured himself ahead of the ODI series and the right-handed batsman had missed the first encounters of the three-match series.

Finch expressed his disappointment at missing out on the tours and further added that he would have to undergo a surgery.

"I'm extremely disappointed to be heading home," Finch said on Sunday (July 25). "This was considered the best course of action rather than travelling to Bangladesh, not being able to play and losing that recovery time. I will have the surgery if required and start the recovery process ahead of the World Cup."

Alex Carey has been leading the side against West Indies in the ODIs in Finch’s absence while a new skipper would be named for the T20Is. Matthew Wade is the vice captain for the T20Is and had also led the side in one game against India last year.

The Aussie team will take the flight to Bangladesh on Wednesday after the conclusion of the deciding ODI. The third and final ODI between the Australian side and the Caribbean team will be played on Tuesday while the T20I series between Australia and Bangladesh is slated to begin on August 3 in Dhaka.

IRE vs SA | 3rd T20I: South Africa complete clean sweep win

South Africa completed a clean sweep win against Ireland in the three-match T20I series after winning the final clash by 49 runs in Belfast. Chasing a stiff total of 190, Ireland were restricted to 140/9 in 20 overs. The hosts didn’t have a great start after they lost Kevin O'Brien early in the chase and never looked steady in the chase as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals to get reduced to 102/8. Captain Andrew Balbirnie top-scored with 27 off 22. For the Proteas, it was George Linde, Lizaad Williams and Wiaan Mulder who scalped a couple of wickets apiece. Earlier, the visitors rode on an emphatic 127-run partnership between Temba Bavuma and Hendricks and then a late surge from David Miller to post 189/2 in 20 overs. While Bavuma struck 72 off 51, Hendricks all notched up 69 off 48 and Miller chipped in with an unbeaten 17-ball 36. Simi Singh and Barry McCarthy were the only bowlers among the wickets for Ireland. Miller, who scored some valuable runs during the course, talked about his knock after the match. “It's nice to contribute after the one-dayers. I was struggling a little bit in the West Indies, it was nice to come out and get some runs on the board and hit it sweet again. Series win as well, a little bonus there,” he said. Captain Bavuma talked about the side’s preparations for the upcoming World T20 and his captaincy. “World Cup is still a couple of months away, we still have time to iron out all the little things, we are looking forward to that event. It's (captaincy) been tough. Personally from my point of view, you always want to lead with the bat as the leader. Being short there makes it tough,” he said.

WI vs AUS | 2nd ODI: Nicholas Pooran, bowlers help West Indies level series

West Indies levelled the three-match ODI series against Australia in Barbados after winning the second clash by 4 wickets. Chasing a target of 188, the hosts had a disappointing start to the proceedings as they lost a couple of early wickets after Even Lewis and Darren Bravo were sent back in the hut by Mitchell Starc early. But wicket-keeper batsman Shai Hope and Jason Mohammad tried to resist and chipped in with a partnership of 36 runs before Mohammad was cleaned up for 11 by Adam Zampa. The right-hander’s dismissal once again pushed the home side on the backfoot as they lost a couple of more wickets in quick succession and were left tottering at 72/5. Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder then came in for the rescue and stitched a stand of 93 runs. Both the batsmen notched up their individual fifties. Though Holder was eventually undone by Starc for 52 after getting trapped in front of the stumps while poor and remained unbeaten at 59 to take his side home in 38 overs. Starc continued his form in the series and returned with figures of 3/26 in 10 overs. Earlier, West Indies bowlers ripped through the Australian batting line up and bowled them out for 187 in the 38th over. Batting first, the Aussie team lost a few early wickets and were left struggling at 45/6 to eventually get bundled out for 187. Wes Agar top-scored with 41 off 36 that included a couple of sixes and three boundaries. For West Indies, Alzarri Joseph and Akeal Hosein bagged three wickets each. Skipper Kieron Pollard lauded the bowlers for their efforts. “When you start a cricket match you want to win. We have some work to do. I don't think we put our foot on the accelerator. Our batters didn't make it easy for us as well. Looks like we don't like to do things the easy way. The spinners were brilliant. The bowlers were brilliant. 180-190 was disappointing and that is how I would like to sum it up,” he said. The two teams will now lock horns on Tuesday in the decider at the same venue.
