Jay Shah has been appointed as the head of the finance and commercial affairs committee of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Shah currently serves as the Secretary of The Board of Control for Cricket in India. He took over this role in 2019, and recently extended his tenure. Earlier this year, he was appointed as  in the ICC Cricket Committee as a Member Board Representative.

Until former President Ganguly became a member of the F&CA committee, there were no representation from India.

The F&CA committee generally decides on the annual budget of the apex board and is also responsible for all the sponsorship and rights deals.

The ICC source thinks it was imperative for F&CA to be headed by BCCI, as 70% of the sponsorship comes from the region.

“Each and every member accepted Jay as the head of the F&CA committee. This is an equally powerful sub-committee apart from the ICC chair (Greg Barclay),” an ICC source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Meanwhile, Greg Barclay secured the second term in the ICC as a chairman. His competitor, Dr Tavengwa Mukuhlani (chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket) decided to withdraw from the contest. Barclay will hold this post for two more years.

Mukuhlani would have represented the smaller boards in the board, which is largely dominated by BCCI, ECB and CA.

According to reports,  Barclay got the support of more than 12  out of 17 members, including Shah, who was representing BCCI.

Barclay was the Chair of New Zealand Cricket (NZC) during the 2015 ODI World Cup.
