Jay Shah, former secretary of the BCCI, took over as ICC chairman on December 1, 2024. He is going to chair the office of the ICC at an important time, succeeding Greg Barclay after being unanimously elected a while ago.

From Gujarat Cricket Association to BCCI, Jay Shah has a long history of experience in cricket administration. He served as BCCI secretary for 5 long years and brought notable transformations to the Indian cricketing setup, men and women included.

His next big goal was to chair an ICC office. Jay Shan was elected ICC chairman after filing his nomination to succeed departing ICC chairman Greg Barclay. It was a unanimous decision from the board of directors, making him the youngest-ever ICC chairman.

Jay Shah expected to end Champions Trophy deadlock

Jay Shah’s induction as ICC chairman comes at a crucial time as BCCI and PCB are in a deadlock over Champions Trophy 2025 hosting rights. A hybrid model request was accepted by PCB but with conditions, which include neutral venues for Pakistan games in ICC events hosted by India. However, as Shah takes over, he is likely to find a resolution at the earliest to ensure the Champions Trophy goes on floors without any delay or disturbance.
