In a significant development, West Indies have updated their T20 World Cup squad, replacing veteran all-rounder Jason Holder with ace pacer Obed McCoy.

Notably, Holder sustained an injury during the County Championship and hasn't recovered in time to participate in the mega event. McCoy, owing to his incredible death-bowling skills, replaces the veteran cricketer in the Windies squad.

Chief Selector of West Indies, Dr Desmond Haynes, revealed that the Men in Maroon would miss Holder's skills and experience in the mega event.

"Jason is an experienced player in our set-up. His absence will undoubtedly be felt both on and off the field. We look forward to having a fully fit Jason with us again soon," Mr Haynes said.

"While it is unfortunate to lose a player of Jason's caliber, we are confident in the abilities of Obed McCoy. Obed has shown remarkable skill and promise in his performances, and this opportunity will allow him to further showcase his talent on the international stage. We believe he will bring a fresh and dynamic energy to the squad," the legendary opener added.

Besides being effective with his cutters on West Indies pitches, Holder could've also contributed handily with the bat down the order.

So, his absence could prove costly for the co-hosts although they have all-rounders like Romario Shepherd and Roston Chase to fill his shoes.
