Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is on the verge of a historic milestone in the upcoming Test match against England. The swashbuckling southpaw could become India's fastest batter to score 2000 runs in Test cricket in terms of matches played.

Jaiswal Eyes Historic Feat In Edgbaston Test

Stylish Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal had an outstanding start to the England tour. The left-handed batter hammered a blistering ton in the first innings of the Leeds Test. Although he managed only four runs in his subsequent outing, his prolific knock of 101 runs earned Jaiswal massive applause from cricket fans worldwide.

As India gear up for the second Test at Edgbaston, Yashasvi Jaiswal aims to go past the legendary Sunil Gavaskar and equal the tally of Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag to become the joint-fastest Indian batter to 2000 Test runs in terms of innings played.

While Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag breached the 2000-run mark in 40 innings, Gavaskar took 44 innings to attain the landmark. On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal has already raced to 1903 runs across 38 innings.

Thus, if he scores the remaining 97 runs at Edgbaston, he will be the Indian batter to complete 2000 runs in the least number of matches.

Interestingly, Jaiswal has played 20 Tests so far, and if he achieves the iconic feat, he will be the first Indian batter to score 2000 runs in just 21 matches.

Jaiswal made his debut in an away Test against West Indies at Roseau back in 2023. He has been one of India's mainstays in the purest format, establishing his stature as a dependable batter in red-ball cricket. The batter has already smashed five hundreds and ten fifties, showcasing his immense potential to succeed in Test cricket.
