Ishan Kishan was treated as an outcast after he faced criticism for prioritising the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) over domestic cricket, which led to his exclusion from the BCCI's contracted players list. However, as reported by PTI on October 18, Kishan will likely feature in India A squad during their upcoming tour of Australia in November, marking his return to national setup after almost a year.

India's promising wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan last appeared for the national team during India's tour of South Africa in 2023, which he left midway, citing mental fatigue triggered by being constantly benched. However, the BCCI, though granted a release, was unhappy with this decision, and his subsequent decision to skip domestic competitions further strained relations.

Ishan Kishan's hiatus from Team India to end?

Subsequently, as a repercussion, Ishan Kishan was dropped from BCCI's annual central contract list with domestic tournaments being the only door left open for him to seek a comeback.

Meanwhile, Kishan learnt his lesson and returned to lead Jharkhand in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season and has managed to impress the selectors with a ton against Railways.

Now, as per PTI, Ishan Kishan is set to return to the India A squad that is scheduled to play two four-day games and an additional intra squad practice match in Australia in November.

The India A squad is expected to be led by either Ruturaj Gaikwad or Abhimanyu Easwaran, with the latter also being considered as a back-up opener for the senior team in case Rohit Sharma takes a break during the first two Tests.

Mohammed Shami virtually ruled out of Australia tour

In a major setback for India, captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that Mohammed Shami had developed swelling in his knee in addition to his heel injury sustained in 2023. The knee issue pulls back his recovery by several weeks, with a return in the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy highly unlikely. Akashdeep and Mukesh Kumar could be likely replacements with Yash Dayal also in the mix for a potential debut.
