Last night, one of the rarest incidents occurred on-field during the New Zealand versus Pakistan match as star performer, Rachin Ravindra was escorted off-the field after suffering a massive blow to his head. While attempting to grab onto a catch the ball hit him directly on his head, the poor lighting at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium caused Rachin to bleed profusely and was walked off the field.
Rachin Ravindra Injury Update
The latest update on Rachin Ravindra's fitness was provided by New Zealand Cricket and it read:
“Ravindra was forced from the field after being struck in the forehead by the ball attempting a catch in the 38th over. He sustained a laceration to the forehead which has been addressed and treated at the ground, but is otherwise well. He came through his first HIA (Head Injury Assessment) well and will continue to be monitored under HIA processes.”
Although, NZ officially confirmed the wellness of Rachin, it remains to be seen whether they would feature him in their upcoming encounter against South Africa. Especially considering that they would want him to be fully fit before the Champions Trophy begins from February 19.
How Did Rachin Ravindra Get Injured On-Field?
Rachin Ravindra was fielding at deep square leg when Khushdil Shah hit a shot in the 37th over. Attempting to catch the ball, Ravindra appeared to be blinded by the lights, and the ball struck his forehead. He fell to his knees, visibly shaken, with blood flowing from his face.
The incident caused concern as the medical team quickly rushed to his aid. Ravindra’s injury was serious. The incident left Ravindra visibly in pain as he received treatment. He got treatment while lying down on the ground after which he got up with help of medical staff and walked off the field with a towel on his face.
