Irani Cup: Cheteshwar Pujara named in Saurashtra’s Squad, Jaydev Unadkat to lead the side

Saurashtra announced their 16-member squad to face Rest Of India ahead of Irani Cup 2022, scheduled to take place from October 1st.

Irani Cup is finally back and taking place after three years due to Covid-19 pandemic. The 2019-20 Ranji Trophy Champions, Saurashtra will take on Rest Of India in the one-off five day game at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.

Cheteshwar Pujara will be in action for Saurashtra

The 16-member squad includes Indian Test veteran Cheteshwar Pujara who was in terrific form while playing for Sussex in the recently concluded county championship 2022. Pujara struck 1094 runs at an average of 109.40 for Sussex, including two centuries and three double centuries.

Experienced Sheldon Jackson, Arpit Vasavada, all-rounder Prerak Mankad and Chirag Jani will form the Saurashtra middle order. 

Jaydev Unadkat to lead the side

Jaydev Unadkat will continue to lead Saurashtra in the forthcoming domestic season. Unadkat played a big role in Saurashtra’s successful 2019-20 Ranji Trophy campaign, taking a miraculous 67 wickets in the season which led the side to the title.

The left-arm pacer was also the player of the tournament in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy where he took the second highest number of wickets (13) and helped West Zone to lift the trophy with 6 wickets in the final.
