IPL Betting | Crime Branch snaps four bookies in Navi Mumbai

The Crime Branch of the Navi Mumbai police raided a secluded place in the city on Sunday (17th April) night. They have caught hold of 4 bookies that were taking bets on IPL matches on their mobile phones, said the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Vinayak Vast.

Betting has become an inevitable social disease in every popular sport. With the advent of modern apps, it has become easy to make a widespread betting network, opined the crime branch experts.

ACP Vast said they have captured the four accused with mobile phones and cash, totalling to 3,20,600. The Police have registered the offences under the Information Technology Act and the Indian Telegraph Act.

The four people arrested by the Police were Identified as Iftekar Ahmed Ishrak Ahmed Khan, 31, Alokkumar Shiv Kumar Gupta, 45, Imran Salim Sheikh, 25, and Mohammad Yusuf Mohammad Yunus Dadda,42, the Police said.

Iftekar is a scrap dealer in Navi Mumbai, Alokkumar Guta is a jockey in a club, Imran Sheikh is a chemical dealer, while Mohammad Yusuf is a caterer, said the Navi Mumbai Police.

This was not the only raid that took place on Sunday. Crime Branches all across India made a feast of non suspecting bookies. The Povorim Police of Goa arrested three persons for running an illegal IPL betting racket. All 3 were residents of Rajasthan, said Police Inspector Anant Gaonkar. Ronak Kamal Mali, Pavan Hira Lal Sharma, and Mohit Ladu Lal Vyas were caught accepting bets through Mobile apps. 

On 16th April, the Hyderabad Task Force also sprung into action as they received specific information about an IPL betting racket. They managed to arrest a bookie operating out of Gudimalkapur in Hyderabad with INR 2.8 Lac, a mobile phone, and a car.
