  • County Championship Its Disappointing And A Slight Wake Up Call Ben Duckett On Nottinghamshires Defeat

County Championship | 'It’s disappointing and a slight wake-up call'- Ben Duckett on Nottinghamshire's defeat

Former England Test batsman Ben Duckett believes that Nottinghamshire's shock defeat to Glamorgan in the Division 02 County Championship game is a 'wake-up call.'

After claiming a comprehensive 10-wicket win in their season opener against Sussex, Notts were well beaten by Glamorgan this week despite brilliant back-to-back knocks from Duckett (122 & 95).

Speaking to the reporters, Duckett termed the defeat as "disappointing", admitting that his side were comprehensively outplayed from the start.

"It's disappointing and, if I'm honest, a slight wake-up call. There will be tough games in this division, and that was one of them," he said.

"I just feel like we were outplayed from the start, and sometimes you do have to take your hat off to the opposition and say well done," he added.

Duckett was full of praise for pacers Timm van der Gugten, who claimed six wickets across two innings.

"The way they bowled, I certainly had to work for most of my runs and the way (Timm) Van der Gugten bowled really won them the game," he added. "The toss was crucial, but there were little periods where we got it wrong, and they killed us," he said.

Duckett was delighted with his performance, and while he is disappointed with the overall result, the southpaw believes that there is still a long way to go in the championship, and there is no point in overthinking about what has transpired.

"For myself, I'm happy to have started that way, and the main thing is that there are a lot of games to come, and there are positives we can take from this," he said.

It is early in the year, and not many people win the division and go unbeaten throughout the whole summer. We are disappointed, but there is no point in getting down about this because we are straight into another challenging game.

Nottinghamshire were without the services of champion seamer Stuart Broad for this week's encounter and were missing a few of their overseas recruits.

After taking a 77-run first-innings lead, Glamorgan knocked over Notts for a mere 242, with Gungten and James Weighell claiming six wickets between them.

A target of 165 was then successfully overhauled thanks to an unbeaten half-century from Marnus Labuschagne and a quickfire 48-ball 47* from Kiran Carlson.

Nottinghamshire will now lock horns with Durham at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street between April 21-and 24.

IPL 2022 | Buttler becomes 6th batter to score multiple tons in single season

Swashbuckling England and Rajasthan Royals (RR) batsman Jos Buttler added another feather to his cap as he became just the sixth batsman to smash two IPL hundreds in a single season. Buttler, who had earlier smashed a 68-ball hundred against the Mumbai Indians, was once again at his rampaging best on Monday night as he took apart the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowling with ruthless disdain at Brabourne Stadium. The Englishman hammered as many as nine fours and five monstrous sixes during his 61-ball 103 to help Rajasthan post the highest score of the season so9 for (217/5). Buttler brought up his ton with a six over long-on off Pat Cummins, who delivered a friendly full-toss to allow his England counterparts to rack up another milestone. With his 3rd IPL ton, Buttler has become only the 6th batsman in the history of the cash-rich league to score multiple tons in a single season. The aggressive opener has joined an elite list of cricketers who have previously achieved this rare feat. Only Chris Gayle, Shane Watson, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Hashim Amla have managed to achieve this feat. The 'Universe Boss' was the first to achieve this coveted feat during his breakout maiden season with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2011. Kohli was the second to join the list, who smashed a registered four IPL tons during his 973-run heist in 2016. Former Proteas opener Hashim Amla achieved the feat while representing the Punjab Kings (formerly: Kings XI Punjab) in 2017, while Shane Watson and Shikhar Dhawan did the same for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2018 & 2020 respectively. Coming back to Buttler, the right-hander has been the holder of the Orange Cap this season. In six games, the stumper has hammered 375 runs at an average of 75 and a blistering strike rate of 156.90. The Royals will hope that their talismanic opener continues his form in the second half of the season.
