IPL 2022 | Buttler becomes 6th batter to score multiple tons in single season

Swashbuckling England and Rajasthan Royals (RR) batsman Jos Buttler added another feather to his cap as he became just the sixth batsman to smash two IPL hundreds in a single season.

Buttler, who had earlier smashed a 68-ball hundred against the Mumbai Indians, was once again at his rampaging best on Monday night as he took apart the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowling with ruthless disdain at Brabourne Stadium.

The Englishman hammered as many as nine fours and five monstrous sixes during his 61-ball 103 to help Rajasthan post the highest score of the season so9 for (217/5).

Buttler brought up his ton with a six over long-on off Pat Cummins, who delivered a friendly full-toss to allow his England counterparts to rack up another milestone.

With his 3rd IPL ton, Buttler has become only the 6th batsman in the history of the cash-rich league to score multiple tons in a single season.

The aggressive opener has joined an elite list of cricketers who have previously achieved this rare feat.

Only Chris Gayle, Shane Watson, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Hashim Amla have managed to achieve this feat.

The 'Universe Boss' was the first to achieve this coveted feat during his breakout maiden season with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2011.

Kohli was the second to join the list, who smashed a registered four IPL tons during his 973-run heist in 2016.

Former Proteas opener Hashim Amla achieved the feat while representing the Punjab Kings (formerly: Kings XI Punjab) in 2017, while Shane Watson and Shikhar Dhawan did the same for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2018 & 2020 respectively.

Coming back to Buttler, the right-hander has been the holder of the Orange Cap this season. In six games, the stumper has hammered 375 runs at an average of 75 and a blistering strike rate of 156.90.

The Royals will hope that their talismanic opener continues his form in the second half of the season.
