In a significant development, Delhi Capitals (DC) have strengthened their coaching setup ahead of IPL 2025 by appointing Matthew Mott as their assistant coach. Mott will work alongside head coach Hemang Badani, who took charge in October last year.

The support staff line-up also includes Venugopal Rao (Director of Cricket) and Munaf Patel (Bowling Coach), among others. Mott brings extensive coaching experience, having previously served as an assistant coach for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2008 and 2009 during John Buchanan’s tenure.

He is uniquely distinguished as a coach who has won both the men's and women's T20 World Cups.

Most recently, Mott was England’s white-ball coach but it is important to note that he stepped down from the post in July 2024 after England’s T20 World Cup semi-final exit against India. Following his departure, he was appointed as the assistant coach with Sydney Sixers in the BBL.

DC's Journey In IPL

The DC continue to chase IPL glory, having participated since its inception without winning the trophy. Despite finishing sixth in IPL 2024 and reaching only one final in 2020, DC entered the recent IPL 2025 auction with the largest budget after releasing several big-name players.

It is important to note that they have retained players like Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, among a few, and have also added stars like KL Rahul, Faf du Plessis, and Mitchell Starc.
