IPL 2023: Whopping 991 cricketers from 14 nations sign up for Auction

In a big development for the all popular Indian Premier League, 991 players from 14 different nations have registered their name for the 16th edition of the cash-rich extravaganza. 

The registrations for the mini-auction culminated on 30th November with 714 Indians and 277 overseas stars putting up their name to feature in the world's biggest league that will be played in April and May next year. The auction is slated to be held on 23rd December in Kochi.

Further, an expansive list was issued by the BCCI where around 19 Indian capped players will be up for sale.

  • Capped Indian (19 players)
  • Capped International (166 players)
  • Associate (20 players)
  • Uncapped Indians who were a part of previous IPL seasons (91 players)
  • Uncapped International who were a part of previous IPL seasons (3 players)
  • Uncapped Indians (604 players)
  • Uncapped Internationals (88 players)

What the BCCI statement reads

"The IPL Player Registration closed on 30th Nov 2022. A total of 991 players (714 Indian and 277 overseas players) have signed up to be part of the TATA IPL 2023 Player Auction set to take place on 23rd December 2022 in Kochi. 

"The players' list includes 185 capped, 786 uncapped and 20 players from Associate Nations."

It is to be noted that around 14 Australians, 31 Englishmen, 27 Kiwis and as many as 52 South Africans will go under the hammer. 

Also, Cameron Green, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, Mayank Agarwal and Manish Pandey are expected to grab big bucks.
