The final of Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most-watched spectacle around the world and it is one of the biggest days in the cricketing calendar. The 28th of May, 2023 was expected to be the D-day of the 16th edition of the IPL and over 1 lakh fans were assembled at Narendra Modi Stadium to watch CSK and GT fight it out for the ultimate trophy.
However, our not-so-beloved friend, rain had different ideas and decided to grab some eyeballs by postponing IPL final to the Reserve Day for the first time in the history of the tournament.
The rain played hide and seek throughout the evening, and at one point in time, when the rain stopped, it looked like we will have a full-game. However, as soon as the covers were taken off and players came on the field for training, it started raining again and got very heavy to create more frustration among all stakeholders.
Eventually, umpires decided to bow down in front of the damage caused by rain and postponed the IPL final to the Reserve Day. The rain did stop around 11 pm when the umpires made the final call but it was already too late till then.
The weather on 29th of May which is a Reserve Day is pretty good and we can expect a full 20-over-per-side game.
A full game on Reserve Day means that cricket will take centrestage, and both players and fans around the world would be pretty happy after a frustrating evening full of rain updates. Let’s hope for a cracking game when MS Dhoni takes on Hardik Pandya in the final of IPL 2023.
