IPL 2022 | Sushant Mishra joins SRH as replacement for injured Saurabh Dubey

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have roped in Sushant Mishra as a replacement for medium-pacer Saurabh Dubey for the remainder of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Dubey suffered a back injury and has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament. The UP based medium-pacer was bought at his base price of INR 20 lakh at the mega auction in February. However, he did not feature in any of the SRH's nine matches this season.

"Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have signed Sushant Mishra as a replacement for medium-pacer Saurabh Dubey for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Dubey has a back injury and has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament," said an IPL release.

Sushant has been called in as an injury replacement at his base price of INR 20 Lakh. It is unlikely that he will get a chance considering Hyderabad's pace attack that features the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Marco Jansen, Umran Malik, T Natarajan in the regular playing eleven and Sean Abbott, Kartik Tyagi, Romario Shepherd, Fazalhaq Farooqi warming the bench. He is predominantly known for bowling short of good length and likes to make judicious use of bouncers.

The left-arm pacer from Ranchi has taken 13 wickets at an economy rate of 4.07 in four first-class appearances, with his best figures of 5/27 coming in the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy against Chhattisgarh in Guwahati.

Sushant was a member of India's U-19 World Cup squad, which reached the final in 2020. In five appearances at the tournament, Mishra picked seven wickets at an average of 19.85 and an economy rate of 4.45, with best figures of 3/28. He was instrumental in India's win over Pakistan in the U-19 World Cup semifinal. He has also featured in two List A matches and has taken one wicket.

In the IPL, he has previously served as a net bowler for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for two years.

SRH sit fifth on the points table, having won five of their nine matches. After losing their first two games, they won five matches on the bounce before losing two games again. They will take on the Delhi Capitals on Thursday (May 5) at the Brabourne Stadium.
