IPL 2022 | MS Dhoni joins Virat Kohli in 200 elite list

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni played his 200th IPL match for the franchise on Wednesday. While he has played 230 IPL matches, 30 of those came in when he was a part of the Rising Pune Supergiant squad (RPS).

Dhoni is only the second player to have represented a franchise for more than 200 games, the first being Virat Kohli, who has played all his 218 IPL matches for the RCB.

The Chennai-based franchise also boasts of having availed the services of two other long term serving players, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja, who donned the Chennai yellow for 176 and 142 matches, respectively.

As far as the total number of matches played in the IPL across franchises is concerned, Dhoni tops the list with 230 games, followed by Dinesh Karthik (224), Rohit Sharma (222) and of course Virat Kohli (218), who has played for just one franchise all his life.

What makes Dhoni stand out, apart from the sheer number of matches played, is that he has translated his international captaincy prowess into his IPL leadership report card, enabling CSK to lift the trophy four times.
