IPL 2022: Rohit Sharma joins Kohli to become 2nd Indian to score 10K T20 runs

Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Rohit Sharma added yet another feather to his cap on Wednesday night as he breached the 10000-run mark in T20 cricket.

Rohit achieved the feat during his whirlwind knock of 17-ball 28 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Wednesday.

The elegant opener has joined ex-Indian skipper Virat Kohli to become only the second player from the country to rack up 10000 runs in the shortest format of the game.

Rohit holds the record for most runs and hundreds that a batsman in international T20 cricket has scored.

The most-capped Indian in the format, Rohit has scored 3313 runs in 117 T20I innings at an average of 32.17 and a strike rate of 139.55 with the help of 30 50+ scores, which also includes four hundreds.

As far as the Indian Premier League (IPL) is concerned, the five-time title-winning skipper has racked up as many as 5713 runs in 213 innings while representing the Deccan Chargers and the Mumbai Indians, at an average of 30.91 and a strike rate of 130.45 with fourty 50+ scores, along with a solitary ton.

Overall, Sharma has taken 375 T20s to score 10000 runs. He joins an elite list featuring the likes of Chris Gayle, Shoaib Malik, Kieron Pollard, Aaron Finch, David Warner and Kohli to become only the 7th cricketer to reach the notable landmark.

Rohit hasn't yet lit up the IPL this season. However, he did look in his elements, taking the duo of Vaibhav Arora and Kagiso Rabada to the cleaners in the powerplay.

Sharma smashed three fours and a couple of audacious sixes before the South African Speedster cut short his enterprising knock.

In 5 games, Rohit has managed just 108 runs at an average of 21.6 and a strike rate of 133.3.
