IPL 2022 | Prithvi Shaw discharged from hospital, continues recovery at team hotel

Delhi Capitals (DC) star opener Prithvi Shaw has been discharged from the hospital after being admitted due to typhoid, the franchise confirmed on its social media on Sunday (May 15).

Shaw skipped the team's last three matches, and last appeared in an encounter against Lucknow Super Giants on May 1. The Delhi opener amassed 259 runs in nine games at a staggering strike rate close to 160, making him and David Warner, the most destructive duo of IPL 2022.

"Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw has been discharged from the hospital where he was being treated for a bout of typhoid. Shaw has returned to the team hotel where he is currently recuperating while being monitored by the DC medical team," DC wrote on Twitter.

In his absence, the team has struggled to find a potential replacement and companion for David Warner at the top as both Mandeep Singh and Srikar Bharat have failed to provide an excellent start to the team.

Earlier, after acknowledging Shaw's illness, DC's assistant coach Shane Watson indicated that the star opener might be unavailable for the team's last two league games.

"It's not looking great. I don't know exactly his diagnosis, but he's had this underlying fever for the last two weeks now, which they have to get to the bottom of to find out exactly what it was. I don't know exactly what the diagnosis is, but it's not looking great for him to be available for use for the last few games," Watson had told The Grade Cricketer podcast last week.

However, now with Shaw returning to the team hotel and recovering well, one can expect him to feature in the final league stage game of DC, which is scheduled to take place on May 21.

Talking about Delhi Capitals, they are currently placed at the fifth spot in the standings with six wins and as many defeats and from here on, they need to win their remaining two matches to make it to the playoffs.
